Transforming a Doggie Demolition Area Into Maintenance-Free Fun for the Family

The owner of this Boston Harbor home in North Olympia was tired of his dogs tearing up the backyard, so he wanted a solution that would make the area maintenance free and more usable for his family for outdoor entertaining. After discussing options with him, we proposed creating an extension to his existing concrete slab patio.

A patio extension saves both time and money by taking advantage of the existing concrete slab. Rather than removing the old patio, we are able to add on to it. While we can extend a concrete slab patio with additional concrete sections, we can also install more creative solutions, like this paver patio.

Paver patios are ideal for our temperate, marine climate because they are able to breathe, allowing water to absorb through the sand in between the stones, preventing puddles from forming. They also add more character and a distinctive look when compared with concrete.

Another advantage of a paver patio is that individual stones can be replaced if they become damaged. This makes them easy and inexpensive to fix; most homeowners can replace a stone by themselves.

This particular paver patio was built with Western Interlock pavers -- the color is called "Cambridge."  In addition to the 1,200 sq. ft. of new patio space, we added a matching fire pit. There is plenty of space to add a barbecue and outdoor furniture for entertaining during the summer months, while providing a durable surface that will stand up to the wet Puget Sound winters.

AJB Landscaping & Fence has many years of experience installing paver patios of all shapes and sizes. If you're interested in adding a paver patio to your home, or would like to compare the cost to a concrete slab, contact us at (360) 789-3707, or fill out the contact form on our website. We are happy to give you a free estimate and make the best recommendation based on your individual situation.
