Dupont Deck Retrofit with Trex Decking
We replaced a worn-out wood deck with Trex composite decking while retaining the original frame, saving our customer money without affecting the quality.
Save Money and "Resurface" an Existing Wood Deck with Trex Composite Decking
This Dupont homeowner had an old, weathered wood deck that was too far gone to repair. It wouldn't have been cost-effective to sand down the boards that were still intact, replace the rotted boards, and re-stain because of the amount of labor involved. He decided he'd rather switch to Trex decking, a composite material that is ideal for our wet climate and invest in a long term solution.
While Trex does not have the same character as real wood, it has the advantage of being much more impervious to moisture and mud. It's also easier to keep clean and it doesn't get "scummy" in the winter from moss and mildew.
It turns out that the framing from the original deck was still in good condition since it was made from pressure treated wood. As a result, we were able to remove the old, wooden deck boards and use the existing frame and supports for the new Trek material. Then we added a built-in, wrap-around bench made from the same material to further frame in the structure and provide abundant seating for entertaining guests. The result was a transformed, more usable deck that will last for many years to come with minimal maintenance, without the added cost of replacing the original frame.
