Spanaway Backyard Transformed, Drainage Problem Solved by Boston Blend Paver Patio

Talk about a huge improvement!  This small Spanaway backyard was overgrown and suffered from an old, rotting, wooden deck.  The deck was probably originally installed because the backyard became waterlogged when it rained.  However, it looked awkward because it was raised from the concrete slab leading from the back of house.  It also didn't solve the root problem, which was improper drainage, and as a result the deck rotted from the bottom up.

We removed both the concrete slab and old deck and replaced them with Boston Blend pavers.  We also added a short, matching retaining wall around the edge of the pavers to hold a drainage system and prevent run-off from the above the fenceline.

Pavers are a great solution in our wet climate because they "breathe."  Rainwater is able to drain through the sand between the individual stones, preventing water build-up and puddles. The pavers create a clean, functional back patio area that will require virtually no maintenance.
